Based in Seville, Spain, ALFOCAN is Europe’s leader for processing and marketing wild-caught freshwater crayfish – known as crawfish in the USA – mainly of the species Procambarus clarkii. These crayfish are sustainably fished using traditional crafts in the lakes and rice paddies of Southern Spain. After China and the USA, Spain is the world’s largest fishing and processing area of Procambarus clarkii crayfish.
Ever since its creation, ALFOCAN has striven to restore the preeminence of crayfish as a delicacy for the world’s epicures. This vision also stimulates Alfocan’s team to discover new horizons and new origins, as is Ecuador where we process the Red Claw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus).
The company’s production centre near Seville (Isla Mayor, Andalusia) has an annual production capacity of over 2,000 metric tonnes and its crayfish processing lines are equipped with modern technology.
The construction of a manufacturing plant for crayfish meal, sold as a high-level natural animal feed and as a bait ingredient, assures the minimization of residual waste-flow, contributing to the environmental sustainability as a key-aspect of the company’s mission and vision.
ALFOCAN exports most of its crayfish to Europe (i.e. France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, the United Kingdom) and the United States.
